01/07/2010 Hancocks Half Hour details
Apparently the name of this evening race is in memory of one of the founders of the host club, Ryston Runners, and the aim is to cover the 5 miles in under half an hour. Richard Heyes was our sole representative in the event but, to his lack of surprise, did not finish in less than 30 minutes!
Richard describes it as 'a warm evening and a surprisingly knackering (but still enjoyable) run on relatively flat terrain with about 3/4 miles off road. 35m 39s. 35th out of 97 starters'.

01/07/2010 Frostbite Friendly League - New Venue Update details
As previously noted, the first Frostbite League race (3 October) will this year take place at a new venue, hosted by Cambridge & Coleridge. It was proposed initially that this would be Milton Park. However, subject to final confirmation, the race will now take place from the University track, Wilberforce Road, Cambridge and will follow local cycleways and pathways. More details to follow nearer the time.
In addition, looking all the way ahead to May 2011, the Senior presentation evening will probably be hosted by Yaxley on 14 May.

3 club runners, Shane Hunt, Sean Barker and Wayne Gimblett ran this weekend at Milton park competing with a 149 other runners.
Unfortunately Sean, while streamlining another runner, followed that runner in the wrong direction and got to see more of Milton Park than the rest of us! And Shane had to pull up during the race because of a calf strain but still managed to battle on to complete the course.

09/07/2010 English Schools Champs - Birmingham details
Huntingdonshire ACs 16-year-old Jordan Gillbanks and 17-year-old Jonathan Edwards proved themselves to be top class performers as they both set superb personal bests at the English Schools Championships in Birmingham. Jonathan finished 7th in the Senior Boys discus, adding over three metres to his club record with a throw of 47.85 metres, while Jordan ran a personal best 50.80 secs in the Inter Boys 400m heats and another best of 50.11 to finish 5th in the semis. Jordan missed making the final by a mere 0.03 secs, not bad for someone who missed almost all of last season through injury. Jonathan and Jordan are both ranked nationally in the top 15 in their respective events.

Message from Gill Luff
Congratulations and a very big thank you to everyone who helped pull together yet another successful 10K race on 18 July. The feedback we have had so far has been very positive, with especial praise for the friendly and supportive marshalls. Everyone though, was absolutely brilliant - THANK YOU!
I do want to know about the things that didn't go quite so well though. So that we can keep improving this race and make it one of the 'must do' races in people's calendars it is important we focus on the detail. Could you please email me with anything that made you think 'Oh, we should have thought of that' or 'Why wasn't that done?' or 'This could have been done better'. However teeny, big, critical please do let me know by dropping me an email g.luff@tesco.net.
Thank you everyone! (a sleeping-better Gill)

21/07/2010 County Development Meet - St Ives details
Last year, Huntingdonshire ACs teenage twins Ian and James McLaren made news when they both recorded the exact same time to the tenth of a second in two separate 200m races. Now, father and daughter Richard and Laurel Phelan have gone one better after finding themselves in the same graded 100m race at the Cambridgeshire Open Development Meet at the St Ives Outdoor Centre. Running into a very strong wind, the pair raced neck and neck all the way to the finishing line to finish at the head of the field in the same time to the one hundredth of a second! Daughter was judged to have beaten Dad by a hairs breadth. Later, Richard and Laurel added to the occasion by each winning their separate 200m races with Dad gaining a small measure of revenge by running the faster time. Also in the sprints, 14-year-old newcomer Sophie Walters burst onto the scene with impressive victories in her 100m and 200m races, winning both events by large margins. Hakeem Duckworth-Porter and Tom Johnson also picked up wins in their respective 200m races. In conjunction with this open meet, the Cambridgeshire County Mile Championships were held and Hunts AC were rewarded with 14-year-old James Downing and 15-year-old Luke Scott picking up the silver and bronze medals in the Under 17 Mens race. Luke has another year in this age category while James has two. In the Under 11 Girls 150m race, Towalla Nche added to her 80m and 600m club records by winning the race and improving the 150m club best by a very impressive 1.7 secs.

25/07/2010 National Junior League - Cambridge details
Huntingdonshire AC’s Jonathan Edwards continued his rampage through the club records as he became sole owner of the club Junior shot putt record while competing for Team Cambridgeshire in the National Junior League at the University track in Cambridge. Last month, Jonathan equalled Paul Hayball’s year-old record of 14.00m, but has now added a further 15 cms to this distance when winning the A string event by a very useful 1.30 metres. Jonathan backed this up with A string victories in both the discus and hammer throws, winning the latter by a huge 15 metres. For his performance in the discus, our very own Nigel Faben was delighted to present Jonathan with the "Man of the Match" medal. As the match included internationals and English Schools winners, this was no mean feat. Jonathan now holds the Junior club records for all three throwing events which is quite significant for a club which has been in existence for 42 years now. Jonathan’s standard is not merely at club level as he ranks nationally in the top 20 in all three events. In fact, when combining these three rankings and comparing to his peers, Jonathan is the number one first-year Junior in the country. Lily Seach continued to consolidate her position as the club’s fastest female when running a wind-legal 100m personal best of 13.14 secs. She followed that up with her fastest-ever electronic 200m timing when finishing 2nd in the B string race, but unfortunately the wind was over the allowable limit. Lily still has three more seasons in the National Junior League. This Saturday will see the men’s team in action at Cambridge where Jonathan Edwards and Paul Hayball will be vying for the title of top Hunts AC thrower.
Jonathan Edwards – Discus A 46.93 (1), Shot Putt A 14.15 (1) Club Record, Hammer Throw A 53.42 (1); Lily Seach – 100m A 13.14 (5) w/s +2.0; 200m B 26.53 (2) w/s +3.0
