25/07/2010  National Junior League - Cambridge  details
Huntingdonshire AC’s Jonathan Edwards continued his rampage through the club records as he became sole owner of the club Junior shot putt record while competing for Team Cambridgeshire in the National Junior League at the University track in Cambridge. Last month, Jonathan equalled Paul Hayball’s year-old record of 14.00m, but has now added a further 15 cms to this distance when winning the A string event by a very useful 1.30 metres. Jonathan backed this up with A string victories in both the discus and hammer throws, winning the latter by a huge 15 metres. For his performance in the discus, our very own Nigel Faben was delighted to present Jonathan with the "Man of the Match" medal. As the match included internationals and English Schools winners, this was no mean feat. Jonathan now holds the Junior club records for all three throwing events which is quite significant for a club which has been in existence for 42 years now. Jonathan’s standard is not merely at club level as he ranks nationally in the top 20 in all three events. In fact, when combining these three rankings and comparing to his peers, Jonathan is the number one first-year Junior in the country. Lily Seach continued to consolidate her position as the club’s fastest female when running a wind-legal 100m personal best of 13.14 secs. She followed that up with her fastest-ever electronic 200m timing when finishing 2nd in the B string race, but unfortunately the wind was over the allowable limit. Lily still has three more seasons in the National Junior League. This Saturday will see the men’s team in action at Cambridge where Jonathan Edwards and Paul Hayball will be vying for the title of top Hunts AC thrower.

21/07/2010  County Development Meet - St Ives  details
Last year, Huntingdonshire ACs teenage twins Ian and James McLaren made news when they both recorded the exact same time to the tenth of a second in two separate 200m races. Now, father and daughter Richard and Laurel Phelan have gone one better after finding themselves in the same graded 100m race at the Cambridgeshire Open Development Meet at the St Ives Outdoor Centre. Running into a very strong wind, the pair raced neck and neck all the way to the finishing line to finish at the head of the field in the same time to the one hundredth of a second! Daughter was judged to have beaten Dad by a hairs breadth. Later, Richard and Laurel added to the occasion by each winning their separate 200m races with Dad gaining a small measure of revenge by running the faster time. Also in the sprints, 14-year-old newcomer Sophie Walters burst onto the scene with impressive victories in her 100m and 200m races, winning both events by large margins. Hakeem Duckworth-Porter and Tom Johnson also picked up wins in their respective 200m races. In conjunction with this open meet, the Cambridgeshire County Mile Championships were held and Hunts AC were rewarded with 14-year-old James Downing and 15-year-old Luke Scott picking up the silver and bronze medals in the Under 17 Mens race. Luke has another year in this age category while James has two. In the Under 11 Girls 150m race, Towalla Nche added to her 80m and 600m club records by winning the race and improving the 150m club best by a very impressive 1.7 secs.
